Does WORD and XCEL run on LINUX? Not to my knowledge.

For the servers of course this is moot. On the client side most users (my customers) only use my applications (accounting, order entry..etc.)....Oh and maybe solitaire or freecell :o)

I may be in the minority but I have a few buddies in the same line of work with similar scenarios. The customers are typically small businesses with 6 to 8 users but a few with as many as 50 users.

The other 20% of the users (maybe 30% in some cases) could eventually be upgraded to XP to stay in sync with newer versions of Word Excel etc...but 20% is not Gates' target I'm sure :o)

There are lots of small profitable efficient companies out there that realise they don't need a copy of XP or office gazillion on each machine and that these extra programs will do zero to enhance the majority of employees' productivity. They are getting smarter now and want to see a direct and quantifiable benefit for any change.

Like I said it depends on the business. Actually all of my customers are small businesses still guided by the founders or second generation. Maybe there is a theme in there :o)

All of my customers took advantage of government tax incentives for Y2K and bought new hardware and software. They will take advantage of cheaper and faster hardware but it is unlikely that they will change their main applications before another 8 years unless some totally new way of working comes into play. Mind you I have a steady 'enhancement' business as these are typically people that don't mind paying good money for a real improvement in efficiency that they have decided they need. That though typically is originated by them as part of a change they initiate in the way they operate.
