(Nasdaq:NTAP), the leading provider of network-attached data access and content delivery solutions, released a study today that confirms the excellent scalability, low total cost of ownership (TCO), and ease of use of NetApp(R) filers running enterprise applications in IBM DB2 database environments with Intel clustered servers. The study was completed in conjunction with IBM's DB2 group and Intel and is available on each company's Web site. It verifies what many real-world customers have experienced over the years: IBM DB2, Intel clustered servers, and NetApp storage solutions integrate, scale, and perform well together, making them ideal for deployment in data-intensive business applications demanding rapid and near-continuous growth, such as business intelligence, data warehousing, and CRM applications. For customers, this study represents an affirmation that the solution deployed using the three companies' products is leading-edge in terms of scalability and outstanding price/performance, both of which are vitally necessary in these competitive economic times. For Network Appliance, this study is another documented example of the power and flexibility of NetApp solutions in a variety of enterprise computing environments. It also demonstrates the ongoing partnership work Network Appliance is doing with IBM DB2 and Intel to assure customers they are getting the maximum benefits from deploying co-tested and interoperable solutions from these leaders in three different parts of the IT industry. The full study is available from netapp.com . The focus of this technical bulletin was a study to validate and understand the scalability of the system with only a moderate amount of performance tuning. This bulletin also documents findings from the evaluation and offers some best practice recommendations. The collaborative efforts of these three industry leaders offers companies with growing databases the confidence and assurance that they can deploy DB2 on Intel-based servers with NetApp filers, knowing that this solution will support their scalability requirements. The study included the evaluation of scaling from one to four Intel servers and quadrupling the database size from 50GB to 200GB. Results demonstrated excellent scalability and also found that the database layout was simple to set up and adjust.
