An interesting word...

it is because you have assumed that he is benighted, and not fully responsible for his actions...

"benighted...lost in moral darkness or ignorance"

I obviously feel that bin Laden is responsible for his actions and should be held responsible. My choice would be that he would be found dead of an unknown cause. No traipsing him in front of any court to become a hero or martyr.

But is he lost in "moral darkness"? If this means to have no morality, no sense of right and wrong, no sense of decency to humanity...I would assume so. Does this remove him from the responsibility of his violent acts? Absolutely not.

And my own anger? ..."rage, passionate displeasure,..."??? I simply want him dead! Does that constitute anger, since I would wish death on very few?
