I think the surprise might be the discounters this time -- I've seen boatloads of traffic at the likes of CC and BBY, but WMT seems to be stacked with Christmas stuff everywhere I go and nothing is "running" out like last xmas

What does Ann Taylor sell? We don't have it here in So.Ca.
Thanx

EDIT: Yahoo shows $20 as a book value. Does it make sense?

Retail - Edie Bauer stores have been light, still have lots of floor stock. Talbots also seem very light, one room was empty. Macy's, Bloomingdales, others all having monster sales with big mark downs of 20-40 % on some reasonably good mercahndise. Macy's still has loads of Men's leather jackets - I don't think they will move all of them.

Just got the POST Christmas sale flyer from Bloomingdale's ...I sense some panic.

By the way, KMART bonds downgraded to junk last Friday by Moodys.

Electronics doing well, DVDs selling like mad.

Other reports say money not spent on travel is going into toys. Local (Northern Cal) Toys R Us had wide spaces, looked liked they had moved inventory around to so customers would not see how little inventory there was.
