My earlier statement concerning a low barrier to entry was directed to the guerilla squads who are putting in WLAN gear on tops of apartment buildings and water towers using 802.11b Ethernet. It doesn't appear from their web site that StarNetWX is doing exactly that. Let's put it this way. There is no statement about the exact nature of the protocol MAC layer protocol being used. They only state that they are using spread spectrum. Can you or someone else clear this up for me? If it's been covered already, apologies for asking, but this would be pivotal in differentiating their service from one of the other easier-to-implement, but-more-prone-to-commoditization schemes that I was referring to earlier.
