Paul, Re: "Intel's Northwood shows good IPC advantages over Willamette Pentium 4 !!!"

It looks like the 2.2GHz Northwood beat the Athlon XP 1900+ in every single test - and that was on an i845 with DDR266. If they really want a "Best of breed" comparison, they'd show a SiS chipset running DDR333 or an i850 with RDRAM. I'm willing to bet that the other reviews coming later will have these configurations.

But 7-16% IPC improvements will certainly help Northwood quite a bit. A 533MHz front side bus will no doubt help it even more in the second quarter. If Tbred and Barton don't include 512KB of L2 or a faster front side bus, they will quickly be left behind in performance.

Paul - Re:"Note - in the latter tests, the Northwood was successfully overclocked at 2.53 GHz. Looks like Intel has some headroom for this new process/processor !!"

AMD will have to rush getting Quanti-speed labels printed in the 2000+ to 2500+ range. Intel is releasing new processors faster than AMD can print new labels for the processors and change the marketing materials.
