Civilization 2 under Windows 2000

Just looking around at websites,it appears the platforms for 2 is win 95 or 98 whereas for 3 it is win 95/98/me/2000. Win 2000 is based on win NT instead of win 98 which would explain 2 not working on win 2000(unless it was designed for win nt).
