Hi Ritch...just got off the phone with a Verizon engineer. He advises that the problem with rural areas is there are many "remotes". That's his terminology, not mine. Apparently DSL through a remote is technologically impossible.

Hate this dial-up, but its the only phone company in town. All puns intended.

Rich, OTOH, nobody's making money on the cable and DSL installs, so why roll it out en-masse. Only the baby bells could be making money on it, and I doubt that's even providing a decent ROI for them.

Wireless may end up being the best option for many people down the road. The only problem is the clear line of sight.
