a slightly different view

Cheney - runs the show, along with Senior & crew. We won't be seeing press conferences w. him because when he talks it's obvious who's in charge. It ain't Junior.

Bush - even his "dead or alive" quips are scripted. The media buys it (but not really) with enough repition, from Ari on down, "the President thinks" this and that. Pretty humorous. W speaks like honest individuals here on this thread, because he probably is that, but unlike them, he was given his job, advisors, and opinions. That's ok, tho', the public wants honest, even if he's titular. If the economy tanks and the war ends, it's a different story.

Rumsfeld - the best spokesman in the administration. Re: Missile Defense - will start implementation in 2003, after some "surprising" successes magically start showing up end of 2002.

Several reasons: technology is irreversible - defense tech is inevitably moving from kill faster/better/quieter to detect/protect. Also the defense establishment feels entitled, with successes in politics and the battlefield, so confidence is high.
