Two New Airports Select Identix Fingerprint Technology to Provide Enhanced Security
Memphis International and Raleigh-Durham International Bring Total Number of Airports to Select Identix Solutions to 15
LOS GATOS, Calif., Dec 19, 2001 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Identix Incorporated (Nasdaq: IDNX chart, msgs), the worldwide leader in providing fingerprint biometric authentication, security, and identification solutions, announced today that it has received orders from two new airports for its fingerprint biometric technology for rapid processing of employee background checks. These orders follow the signing into law of the Aviation and Transportation Security Act by President Bush on November 19, 2001, which requires that every current and prospective airport and airline employee with access to secure areas undergo a criminal history background check. The Company believes this requirement applies to the estimated 750,000 total airport and airline employees in more than 400 airports throughout the nation.

The selection of Identix Live Scan technology by Memphis International and Raleigh-Durham International Airports brings the total number of U.S. airports to have selected Identix technology to assist in enhanced security to fifteen.

Memphis International has placed a purchase order for two Identix Live Scan TouchPrint(TM) 2000 Applicant Fingerprint Systems (TP 2000 AFS) and Raleigh-Durham International has placed a purchase order for one TP 2000 AFS. Installation of each of the Live Scan Systems is expected to take place in January 2002.

Memphis International Director of Operations & Public Safety Walter White said, "The security of our airport and our passengers is our number one priority. We believe that utilizing technology to assist in security is a must. Identix' Live Scan systems will assist us in meeting the employee background check mandates of the Aviation and Transportation Security Act."

Raleigh-Durham International spokeswoman Mirinda Kossoff said, "The new technology from Identix will help us ensure the safety of our customers. The Identix fingerprint system will give us an accurate and efficient means of conducting criminal background checks on all our employees, which is one more way we can help America feel more comfortable flying."

Identix Executive Vice President Worldwide Sales Valerie Lyons commented, "We have seen especially strong interest from the airport industry for our Live Scan technology following President Bush's signing of the Aviation Security Act in November. Because our technology is extremely easy to use and allows airports to process employee background checks in a relatively rapid manner, we believe it can play an important role in helping airports comply with the background check requirements of the Act."
