Depression - Jude Wanniski has done some work on the 1930.

There's a link to his site on Drudge.

Also Peter Drucker had a conversation with the person who was head of the FED in 1930 - 32.
I don't have a ready reference to this, I'll try to find one.

The bank failures really made the Depression much worse in the U.S,. than in most of Europe.
Part of this may have been a failure to liquify the good banks, resulting in a string of failures and shut down of huge chunks of the economy.
