Andreas- SLedgehammer might add "64bits" but they have barely started to attack any of the big system problems. Its sort of neither fish (desktops don't need it) nor fowl (it doesn't address the big systems issues).

That sounds good to me. It sounds like a very simplistic view of the market by Intel and an Intel in denial about the potential of the hammers. In reality, I believe there are many desktop number crunching applications that could benefit from 64 bits. Also, just like Mhz sells, I think 64 bit will have status appeal as well.

Likewise, it may be that Itanium is a better choice for big iron servers for airlines. But the server market is not just big iron. There are many segments where AMD systems will compete. And of course, AMD-based servers will be very cost competitive.

Thank you Andreas for providing this info.

thanks so very much for posting that summary.
I especially liked the part about the "wine" with "Pomp and Circumstance". Was he serious about this? Now it is in writing and you have thousands of witnesses! p.s. but what kind of wine?
