New US Military Pressure on Australia and New Zealand On a recent visit to Australia and New Zealand, US Secretary of State Albright and Defense Secretary Cohen warned both nations they would have to *spend more on weapons and cooperate more closely with the US military* or risk losing alliances with the US. The US demanded that New Zealand abandon its *nuclear-free policies* and that Australia provide bases for US spy satellite tracking for nuclear submarines and the new US space weapons program. mindspring.com Sounds to me like New Zealand is at least as isolationist as the US. Or is what New Zealand wants is for the US to take care of all of the world's problems (preferably at NZ's bidding) while New Zealand fails to assist the US in her defense?
