George, not exactly sure what you're scanning for but I sometimes use Stockcharts for scans < cause it's free, but that's changing soon >:

stockcharts.com

SI has it's own scan tool which may suit your purposes better.

Others on the thread may have some better ideas for you.

re where do you go (on the 'net) to screen stocks according to volatility?

Are you talking about intraday volatility? as in price change. CBS Marketwatch has one almost the same as Datek that I find useful at times.

This is todays list of stocks that were above $5 and changed upwards by more then 10%, with volume above 100k shares, sorted by percentage change, decsending.

You could of course sort a list of stocks that went down by >10%, or percentage change downward, ascending.

Not sure how you could do this for the week/month, I would find that kind of screener useful too :-)
