DLPH, yep sitting is hard and I agree with your logic. I put less faith in any kind of rally than many, especially regarding the "January Effect". I think we already had the big rally in October and November. Any new rallies in the next 30 days, if they occur, will likely be pretty mild, but we could get a little boost.

I am more positive in mid-January when the early earnings announcements come out. Often the first ones that come out are pretty decent and the market often seems "surprised". Of course the mini-rally is usually short-lived after the latter earnings come out and put a damper on things again, as the Market then appears "shocked" and "disappointed". LOL!

Again, the biggest factor for any pre-January rally may be a pre-Christmas stimulus package or bin laden or some other "unexpected" or rather unlikely good news.

I will be watching sectors far more than ever before looking for rotation of beating down quality stocks on days when a particular sector is strong.

I am tired of scalping and want to make 2-4 points+ whenever possible. That's the goal. Timeframe is important but not the overrriding factor.
