<<-Success must be projected with brand names
If you are recently successful, a Rolex will get the point
across nicely. Many people in other parts of the world
are insecure about their place in society. If they don't
show off, how will anyone know they are successful?
Lexus, Mercedes, Rolex, Armani all seem to help those who
feel a bit lacking.>> i can dig that, that makes much sense. But i must remember if i be in Japan not to wear my Mickey Mouse watch and my rhinestone cufflinks:) max

AJ:
I lived and worked in Japan for a while - I would add that, compared to the U.S., many more young adults - especially young women - live with their parents. So, they have much more disposable income.

And, given the importance of Tokyo to the total economy, many couples stay and work in that area and eventually take over one of their parents' homes - again, very different than U.S.

Luxury goods sales are not what they once were in Tokyo, however.
