I think that piece is slanted towards the Palestinians, like most things the Nation prints about the Mideast, regurgitating their propaganda at several points in defiance of known facts.

Nice of the Nation to opine that terrorism is not an existential threat to Israel. The US has also survived without the World Trade Center. Are we therefore unjustified in our aggressive response? Oh I forgot, the Nation thinks so.

Sharon wants Arafat & co to give up on their bright idea that they can terrorize Israel into yielding land for no peace, land for more war. That's what he was elected to do -- and only Yasser Arafat could have elected him.

Frank,
I can't make up my mind whether Sharon and his beastly henchmen just want to terrorize the Palestinians into being forever a convenient underclass (in the 21st century!,) or if they are really into the ethnic cleansing mode.

The correct terminology is genocide. The sooner the evil doer Sharon is charged for crimes against humanity, and taken to the Hague for trial, the better.
