Government Of Uganda Expands Face
Recognition Voter System; Electoral Commission Purchases Additional
Viisage Licenses

LITTLETON, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 20, 2001--Viisage Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ: VISG), the leader in face-recognition technology and identification systems and solutions, announced today that the Government of Uganda's Electoral Commission has purchased 82 additional workstation licenses to expand its current Viisage face recognition system that has been implemented to reduce potential voter registration fraud.

The additional workstation licenses will allow Uganda to expand its current system to support the demand for a greater number of system users. According to the Secretary of the Electoral Commission, A. Muwonge, "Viisage's system has met and exceeded our expectations, resulting in the need for us to expand our current licenses. The level of support we have received from Viisage confirms that we have partnered with the right company."

The system implemented from Viisage supports a database containing more than ten million images. The project requires that a digital image be acquired for every registered voter and validated for the purpose of eliminating duplicate registrations within the ten million voter registration database.

Tom Colatosti, Viisage President and CEO, states, "We are extremely pleased that our face-recognition technology has been so effective in meeting the Government of Uganda's electoral needs that they have decided to expand the use of their system. This additional order further demonstrates the robustness of our technology to successfully help reduce identity fraud, while improving personal privacy."
