Uncle Frank, there are no new models, period. VZ and PCS always seem to sit around for too long. It almost seems like GPRS will be available before 1X in the US. The pathetic managment of Verizon and PCS must be tolerated by the fact that these companies have other interests to protect - dsl, long distance, dial up modems, etc...

Wireless and dial up are two seperate cultures. Wireless is the by product of technology and innovation. Dial up is the by product of utility style management - out to protect the labor unions.

One more though about the serial port connection between my sanyo and my laptop - it sucks. Why do I want to fiddle with the screws? I don't have to do that with my Sony digital camera with my Vaio. The USB port connection requires no manuals.

Let me lay this out for PCS management. The USB connection should be recognized by Windows XP as soon as it links to the laptop. From there, all that should be required is the dial up instructions for your MSN account. From there, you connect to your ISP - ready to surf.

If anyone has used the Camera Wizard by Sony for Windows XP, I'm sure they will appreciate the simplicity of the connection. This is DIGITAL. Speed and functionality. Not just theoretical speeds with no applications. Note to Qualcomm, slash your R & D division by 50% and replace with 5 software writers that can create some decent DIALER CD's.

Hi Frank,

I just came from the local Sprint store. I too was looking to upgrade to a model more appropriate for "aging eyes." All the displays, as you say, are still tiny, but they now have a new model from Samsung with "Indiglo" backlighting. Bright blue. Makes reading those tiny readouts much easier. The bastards won't give the special price ($49) to anyone but a new sign-up though. $149 for backlighting???? I don't think so.
