meek like gandhi mostly because of their relegion. They are able to take a lot of abuse nothing to do with religion. IMO, its not abuse, but a tolerance for others, developed over a few generations. and many of those same kind of tolerant people live in Pakistan. (the 2 only got separated about 50 years ago. India/Pak have centuries of common history & customs). there is a difference between 'relationships between the common man' and 'relationships between governments'. Mr Gandhi was hardly a meek man. He found the opponent's soft spot, and exploited it. BTW, India with about 1B people, has people of almost every religious faith on the planet, amongst its citizens. cheers, kumar
