nothing to do with religion. IMO, its not abuse, but a tolerance for others, developed over a few generations. and many of those same kind of tolerant people live in Pakistan. (the 2 only got separated about 50 years ago. India/Pak have centuries of common history & customs).

there is a difference between 'relationships between the common man' and 'relationships between governments'.

Mr Gandhi was hardly a meek man. He found the opponent's soft spot, and exploited it.

BTW, India with about 1B people, has people of almost every religious faith on the planet, amongst its citizens.
