I agree that would be a mistake. This neighbor won't befriend the raccoons anyway and there are hardly any furry bears here in Silicon Valley. :) Lots of bears in Yosemite Park, though, and I've seen the traps the rangers use: verrry sturdy.

Also, The metal can will work with bears too, but you need a heavier gauge metal. :)
