***OT***Hyundai Corp*** D40, If AMAT made cars I'd say go for it - perhaps a little red two-seater CMP model? Seriously, I don't know enough about Hynudai to offer an opinion - sorry.

OT - Hyundai

While I was stationed in Korea a decade (!) ago, they were ubiquitous (trans: all over the place). Hyundai is in the process of doing to the Japanese automakers what they did to Detroit. (Import quotas have driven the Japanese more to the high-margin luxury US market; more profit per unit when units are limited. For the most part, they've left the bargain niche behind. IMO, of course.)

After watching them jounce over tank-rutted dirt roads, bad asphalt, and the Seoul free-for-all traffic, I'd be fairly confident in a Hyundai. Research them on Edmunds.com for pro/con commentary.

Ob-Disclaimer - I've driven two GM trucks for thirteen years. One for 11 years and 216,700 miles; the new one for two and 27,000. Do the maintenance, and whoever makes it, it stays around. For your mom's light driving pattern, you should REGULARLY change the oil, earlier than recommended. $20 every two or three months is EXCELLENT repair insurance.
