i815 and 810 chipsets have minor bugs

As if they were any different from any other semi company...

The problem slowed the introduction of one Dimension model which was cured by using an Intel mobo with short memory traces and Micron memory earlier this year.

Which would imply that some Dell PCs require a specific model of Micron SDRAM, and will experience problems if they use any other memory from any other source.

There is another problem with the 810 and 815 chipsets on the 3.3 volt power rail, causing lockups to occur under some circumstances when playing VCDs.

VCDs?

Video CDs?

Dan, Re: "If sales in the hundreds represents "too much momentum to stop" what would constitute disappointing sales?"

Current sales have nothing to do with the momentum of the architecture. I'd probably only confuse you with the facts, so I suggest browsing an Internet search site and look for "Itanium" and see how many design wins you can find. Then search for "Hammer" and see how many links don't relate to an item commonly found in a toolbox.
