Ban Ban McJanus - re: "I was just wondering why Dell was only offering the DDR unit with up to 512 MB of RAM."

Simple - Dell does not want to get stuck with 512 MegaByte DIMM modules that are extremely expensive right now - and will no doubt plummet in price after the holidays.

Dell isn't stupid, you know.

After all - they ARE SMART ENOUGH not to use AthWipers with all their instability problems.

Jim, "I was just wondering why Dell was only offering the DDR unit with up to 512 MB of RAM."

Maybe for the same reason that in the not-so-distant
past Dell was offering PC600 DRDRAM only on certain models
under excuse of PC800 shortage, while other models,
at the same time, were exclusively equipped with
PC800 DRDRAM. This is called "compatibility issue"<g>.
I guess this 512MB restriction will be lifted after
an extra spin of i845D bridge.

Actually, the Paul's "1GB" is not exactly the last dream
of PC builder/user nowadays...
