But an Afghan official in Kabul said the convoy was carrying members of the shura - or tribal council - for Paktia province, invited to the capital to attend the inauguration of Afghanistan's interim government on Saturday.

I heard that also, but I highly doubt that report, especially copnsidering who first reported it - the Pakistani Islamic press. If those tribal elders were traveling in Paktia province, a known last haven for the Taliban and Al-Quaeda, they would be insane to travel via secondary roads without informing the leadership in Kabul, which could then have arranged for safe passage by informing U.S. and other forces in the area.

Sad if true-- seems unlikely to be though. If UNtrue to be like the PAKs and others in/from the region we should be overjoyed,, hell, by their standards we would be shooting guns and dancing in the streets no matter who they were. Still,,, its done and shit happens in combat areas. I heard of no messages of remorse for the Americans lost and damn but feel none for those 65 that died.
