Harold,

In Internet Explorer, click on Tools, Internet Options...

In the dialog box, click on the Security Tab.

For each of the Zones, (Internet, Local Intranet, Trusted Sites, Restricted Sites), click on the Custom Level button.

What is the Security Level for each of these Zones (High, Medium, Medium-Low, Low)?

Internet zone should be set to Medium.
Local Intranet zone should be set to Medium-Low.
Trusted Sites zone should be set to Low.
Restricted Sites zone should be set to High.

Do you recall which Zone DATEK had you change (probably the Internet zone)? If they had you change the Internet zone, let us know which settings are Disabled.

B.K.

Try the steps BK told you about and if the problem persists here's some other ideas.

Since your problems started after the Datek Java fix here's what I would do. Open a browser window and click on tools and choose internet options. Now click on each icon (internet, local intranet, trusted sites, and restricted sites one at a time) and click the default button at the bottom right of the window. That should set all your security settings to the windows default level. Then click on the advanced tab and click the default button on that window.

I'd then go back to the Windows Update Page and download and install IE 5.5 along with any other critical downloads that Microsoft recommends.

If you haven't gone to the Mcafee site and downloaded new virus definitions and you don't know whether they are automatically downloaded and installed I'd go to their site and run the online scanner to see if you're still in good shape.

I'd go back to Datek and try the Java stuff that you were having problems with to see if they still work. The java stuff itself should not have any bearing on the "missing" web pages you have been experiencing. Have you ever downloaded and installed any net accelerator or ad-blocking programs? Some of them can cause a problem like you are having. Let us know.

Harold, I use Win98, IE6 and Datek with no problems - so there is hope for you too. :) If you want to know about any of my settings just ask.
