ddl, Yes, the good old days. Lew was and still is a screenwriter and as far as I know good at his art. The con men are good at their art too and their prey is people who are fairly open and trusting of their fellow man, as Lew is/was.
This and other scams like Bre-X were the trial by fire for trusting investors. After they are burned they become a lot warier and harder to cheat.
The trouble is the cost for some was huge, almost ruinous for their retirement.
But look at Enron. Insiders sold their shares and at the same time prevented others from selling theirs.
That was straight conflict of interest and very crooked.
