Could the proper combination of events drive them into a state of crisis - where fundamentalist organizations, driven by populist uprisings, suddenly tip the balance of power?

I wasn't suggesting the possibility was distant. I was only taking issue with the suggestion that the American public and Congress would be outraged that some parts of the video did not get transcribed, probably to avoid embarrassing the Saudi royalty.

Insofar as the danger to the ruling regime, it is quite real. They seem to have adopted their own form of Islamism (Wahaabism) that dresses up royal repression in cleric's robes.

Call me a silly sentimentalist but I think economic opportunity and democracy make for better vaccinations than injections of rabies.
