2:25PM Sector Watch: Semiconductor : -- Technical -- Highlighted the fact that this sector (SOX) and the semi HOLDRs (SMH) were nearing important support zones yesterday and in fact have seen solid recovery today. For SMH will need to see follow through beyond the 43/43.50 area to help neutralize this month's generally bearish bias.

12:30AM QLogic (QLGC) 45.19 +1.74 (+4%): -- Technical -- Aggressive early run stymied thus far by its 50 day simple ma (45.5). Now in the midday, pre-holiday lull but a continued limited correction below this level would be a reflection of very short term strength. Intraday support at 44.80 followed by 44.45.

11:27AM Celestica (CLS) 40.01 +1.32 (+3.4%): Banc of America intra-day says they believe that CLS is likely to soon announce it has won a sizeable deal worth about $500 mln from NEC of Japan; deal would open up new mkts, offer more visibility, further strengthen tech base, diversify its customer base, and keep co on track to meet operational forecasts; further says that Japanese electronics OEMs represent about 1/3 of the world's electronics cost of goods sold and they are starting to outsource mfg; B of A expects CY02 to be the first year that demonstrates this.

8:30AM Texas Instruments (TXN) 26.50: Sources saying Soundview is positive on TXN; firm believes co is doing better than Street expects, as field checks indicate qtr is on track. Although end mkts are still weak, inventory is getting worked down and should stabilize demand for components ahead of actual growth in those end mkts.

8:29AM Pericom Semi (PSEM) 13.43: Hearing from sources that SoundView Technology downgrades PSEM to BUY from Strong Buy; says its checks reveal intense pricing pressure on Logic chips which will reduce revenues for the quarter; current qtr revenue estimate cut to $12.1 mln from $12.9 mln, FY02 to $50.3 mln from $54.1 mln.

8:08AM Semi Equip Book/Bill : Last night's semi equipment book/bill rose slightly to 0.73 but bookings fell to a new low for the cycle; most brokerage firm comments on the data are similar, with these takeaways: ratio was close to expectations, bookings were weaker than expected and indicate the industry is not yet seeing a recovery, and this ratio is a lagging indicator.

6:55AM Cirrus Logic (CRUS) 11.35: Co reaffirms guidance for the DecQ; sees revenues "at or slightly above" the high end of guidance provided Oct 24 and loss per share at the "favorable end" of the range it provided. CRUS says the increased revenue is due to stronger than expected turns business.
