Excellent research, DavesM! And just as Israel emerged via the impositions of outsiders, so did the boundaries of current Arab states. Among some Islamists and pseudo-Islamists is a desire to remove those boundaries to create one giant fundamentalist country. I believe OBL and Saddaam Hussein pursue that.

But the likelihood of success seems about the same that Afghanistan can overcome tribal divisions. Such boundaries were drawn to reflect that.

Is your point that if these countries were not colonies in themselves, they would have run the Jews into the sea, but because of being subjects of colonialism themselves, Jews were spared?
