<the relevant part is already highlighted in bold for you>

Yea, the part that your mind deems relevent.... our minds work via relevence, we find what we're looking for. You see sales on the web up 30some% from last year... sounds awesome if you could buy 'the web'... what company is that anyway??? What's their symbol? Now let's look closer, here's the part you like:

<<The online holiday season peaked on Dec. 17, a day earlier than last year, but revenues, which topped at $254 million, have not been dropping as fast as a year ago, Hearst said. In fact, this week, online sales gained an extra 2 percentage points, resulting in a 32 percent gain in sales from Nov. 19 through Dec. 19, compared with a year ago. Hearst believes that shoppers are staying online because of the plentiful offers of free shipping - with minimum purchase requirements - and price discounts.>>

So we're up a hundred million from last year on total web sales??? WTF is that?? It's freakin nothin, that's what. Further more there are offers of free shipping and price discounts, so there is no way of knowing if anyone even made any money.

Now look at the sentence directly after your favorite part:

<<But brick and mortar retailers, many of which are meeting their sales expectations on the Web, are finding themselves struggling on land.>>

So good old lands end is doing nicely on the web boosting total web sales, that's nice, but "SHOW ME THE MONEY".... who do you invest in??? What space do you like??? Hello??? Anyone home??? Got names of winners, or just like the cool web based economy so buy the S&P???

Thanks for the post, although if you see bullishness, I see mixed at best... here's the lead tidbit by the way:

<<Retail analysts expect the weakest season in more than a decade, and don't share merchants' hopes that a significant final buying spree can change that. >

As for here in the Valley of the Sun I have a few shopping anecdotes... saw upscale Scottsdale Fashion mall very crowded the past few days although there were lots of Xavier High girls running anound with no bags in their hands... they must have had off... still, it looked like a real nice day for retailers there. My buddies said it was the same at Paradise Valley Mall. I myself found a bunch of real nice shirts 50% off at Jahne Barns, my preffered clothier and 2 wonderful Jackets 50% off as well... pants were only 30% off but I bought a couple of those as well. They were willing to next day tailor the jackets and send them to my home AT NOT CHARGE so I could make my XMAS party tonight FWIW. I've never had that offer before, but don't know that it means anything.

So, on to the party... met a couple real estate guys who told me of 2 brand new buildings in the tony Biltmore area that are totally vacant, one @ 21st and Camelback just blocks from the hotel and the absolute best address in the whole Valley [24th and Camelback]. One said the vacancy signs up and down Camelback are up substantially in the last 6 months. They seem to think we're a year and 1/2 away from a bottom in real estate in the valley.

Nite for now.
