They know that. But Dithers, JLA, CH, and some others are trying to get "even" right now by cross posting indirect comments about me for the purpose of misleading, lying, insulting, insinuating, etc.

I found them, in particular, to be dispicable in their tag team bullying of decent people in the past. Intelligent people with self respect can post face to face. People who backbite always have something to hide. This is why they do it. They slink like jackals around the campfires of humanity!

Of course, we all use "we" to refer to our group, our country: we the civilized world, we the alliance members, we the allies during the second world war, etc. Everyone knows that. "We" refers to whomever the speaker is conceptualizing as a group.

My nationality has never had anything to do with any of my arguments, nor have I ever, in any way shape or form, said anything that mislead anyone in any way as to my nationality. Nor, on the other hand, have I ever made a point to disclose personal details except in pm to people I have come to respect and to trust.

I don't think country, race, religion, political vote, or any other personal matter should substitute (or negate) the strength of honest reason. For that reason I have never used color or nation to buttress or weaken an argument. It is time for us (read that as "civilized people" for the heel biting jackals!) to leave voting preferences, skin color, language, nationality, religion, etc. aside...and to argue ideas on their own merit. Of course, ideas about certain categories need to be argued with reference to the categories.

In this respect all civilized people have and do address the issues of targeting civilians in war-as well as a plethora of other issues.

When issues of humanity are being discussed, the context of "we" will surely be clear to everyone except those who are being intentionally malicious and misleading. There are such people who are useless in debate; so they fall back on personal attack and heel biting.

Anyhow, thank you for the simple human contribution of an honest post which is not designed to get revenge; nor calculated to trick, mislead, or misrepresent. How is a person supposed to deal with these allegations behind the back?! I guess that is their point and purpose. Pathetic!

We disagree on many things--but at least we can post face to face, and stand upright! ;-)

Happy holidays, Jewels...

Is a Canadian not an American?

The language we have available is unfortunately limited. We are the United States of America. It would seem really weird to call ourselves United Statsians or United Statists. So we say Americans. I first realized the problem with this when I was a student in Mexico City in 1962. Of course, Mexico had a way of dealing with the problem of distinguishing us from Latin Americans. United Statsians were simply called Gringos. Canadians kind of got lost in that, it seemed. Too bad our forefathers, with their great wisdom and foresight, didn't pick a more usable name for our country. But they were hung up on federalism, not ease of expression.

Are we beginning to think of Canada as a suburb of the USA?

I definitely consider Canadians my countrymen in spirit. It's unthinkable to treat them as foreigners. Whether or not that's a good thing for Canadians remains to be seen.

Excellent point, 'Jewel' and one that has always bothered me ...

The use of 'Americans' is incorrect.

North Americans is accurate.

U.S.A. is but half of North America.
