"The winning argument that Ashcroft used in the confirmation hearings was that he would uphold
the law...[while he was thinking...according to the laws of John Ashcroft].

Americans sent hundreds of thousands of letters and e-mails to Congress in opposition to
Ashcroft's appointment.

The only people who truly believed that he would uphold the law in an impartial manner was
the United States Senate. It was difficult to believe that the Senators on the committee for
his confirmation were so naive.

These people are suppose to be knowledgeable and sophisticated! (LOL)
What's even more frightening is that they are suppose to put the interest of the American public
ahead of the "old boys network in the Senate."

In short, The United States Senate sold out the American public when they nominated Ashcroft
and Gail Norton among others. At the moment, Norton is on trial for lying to a judge, although
other issues may be involved in her trial.
