It is actually much more complex than that, you are talking about detecting parts per trillion, no gas chromatograph has that sensitivity. You would be better off using HPLC, but the 'sample" prep stage is where the real trick is. Furthermore, that handle only the "volatile" nitro molecules you also need something to detect (without imaging) and without radiation, other offensive elements like metals, yet differentiating between teeth filling and hidden weapons. If I had a "client" I would have applied on his behalf for such a patent, without a designated client, applying for patents for each crazy idea or concept is a sure path to bankruptcy (g).
