Monica:

Nothing wrong with 30 million units, an AMD record...How many units was INTC going to ship and how does that stack up with their record year???

Given that the Japanese GM is making the statement, I'd guess that it is reasonable to assume that the 40% pertains to Japanese units...but much more importantly, AMD in the worst downturn in at least 20 years is shipping 30 million units worldwide, an AMD record and wull record record PC processor revenues in q4...Not too shabby...

Monica Re..hmaly - You wrote AMD could have easily increase market share by 40%,
What utter nonsense - you are either completely confused otr you never even bothered to read Milo's post.<<<<

Me confused by your taking things out of context; not at all. Here is the sentence from the article and your response. Milo - The statement that you posted K.J. Chou, president of AMD’s Taiwan branch, said that given the business boost AMD’s processor shipments worldwide this year are expected to reach 30 million units, climbing by 40% from 2000. is preposterous.
AMD shipped 26.4 million processors in 2000 - and if they ship 30 million in 2001, that represents only a 12% increase.
Why would this AMD official release false information?<<<<<

However, your interpretation isn't what the article said. Here is what the article said.
.J. Chou, president of AMD’s Taiwan branch, said that given the business boost AMD’s processor shipments worldwide this year are expected to reach 30 million units, climbing by 40% from 2000.<<< If you can read english, I hope you would note that Chou was talking about the "business boost" or market share increases in the business segment, that increased by 40% from 2000, bringing chip sales up to 30 million. How about if I rephrase that sentence to make it easier for you. You will note that I will use the exact same words, just put one phrase earlier in the sentence. Then the sentence would read. .J. Chou, president of AMD’s Taiwan branch, said that given the business boost, climbing by 40% from 2000, AMD’s processor shipments worldwide this year are expected to reach 30 million units. There, can you understand the statement now? Now I realize the reporter shouldn't have written a sentence with two meanings, but, it really wasn't that hard to pick up that interpretation.

And what do you want to bet that that interpretation is correct, considering this paragraph:According to Taiwan’s Institute for Information Industry (III), AMD will claim around 27% of the global processor market in the fourth quarter. Dataquest statistics also showed that AMD has seen significant share growth in both the home and enterprise sectors this year. In the small-size enterprise market, AMD’s overall share rose to 40% in the third quarter, while in the home markets in Japan and Western Europe, the figure reached around 50%. You will note that the reporter talks about the "small-size enterprise" market share boosts to over 40% overall, and 50% in Europe.

Maybe before you start going around half cocked, insulting everyone, you should be sure of what you yourself should have read.
