Jim:

"This is not a valid comparison as the 1.6 GHz Athlon is NOT marketed at 1.6 GHz but a 1900+ Mhz chip (vs a T-bird or P4 or whatever). AMd has even given instructions for OEMs not to mention the true MHz of the chip. If you are going to compare it should be a 1900 Ghz P4 to a XP 1900+. in price."

I must confess that initially I did compare an XP 1900+ to a 1.9 GHz p4 until kap brought to my attention that the 1900+ is really a 1600...The point, and valid imo, is that on a MHz comparative basis the "unthinkable has already occurred" AMD's processor command a premium for the first time in their history!!!

"Without the PR rating AMD would be in even deeper trouble than they are."

That's kinda like saying that without the AMD barriers to entry into N/A that have been erected, INTC's demise would be at a much more rapid rate than the $10 billion reduction we've seen in the past year...True but doesn't change the reality of trhe here and now!!!
