Fyo, Nope, it was the FCC that failed to make the same standard across the USA as europe.
Had that happened then American companies would have been able to divert production of the same models to europe and got share by price cuting.
The patchwork quilt of the USA prevented any particular system from going into large volume production.
The Euro density did help compared to the USA, that is true.

As for german labor laws being too rich, we will see this ruining the german economy since there will no longer be the exchange rate mechanism to correct the German wage inflation by a lower Dm.
In fact the countries with labor flexibility will soon cut the others to pieces...leading to defections or some other form of rage and greed as they try and blame their problems on others.
This will probably show as pressure to "harmonize" labor laws so they are uniformly bad....then we will see the euro in free fall (again)
