Dan3:

"I must say Dan3 that arguing with you is an exercise in futility. You make up facts on the fly and you seem to have no regard about getting caught. If a lie doesn't fly the first time you just try passing it off on someone else. I'm afraid this is the end of this discussion because I'm not going to waste my time on someone who makes thing up adlibitum. As someone else said, you are AMD's #1 fabrication facility."

Sounds like you touched a nerve...The second wave of Intellabees is now swarming...Perhaps you are much closer to the truth than they wish one to be...Amazing how they attack your analysis without providing any substantiating material to back up their attack...other than oblique references which is what they accuse you of...

I'll ask you the same question I ask people on the Intel thread. Why do you bother? This guy is a liar and he doesn't care how many times he gets caught. He just lies again. You're wasting your time and you have to wonder who's the fool when you argue with a fool?

Re: That takes up space. If anything the high pincount would increase the size of the die

Hence the minimum die size - regardless of how small a die the logic could be fit into.

Re: AMD just closed those fabs and laid everybody off

AMD closed two old FABs and discontinued their embedded 486 products. Their embedded K6 business is continuing unaffected. The Legerity and Vantis stuff was not mentioned as being affected in the press releases that I saw. The Legerity and Vantis business has been dropping off since foundry services in Taiwan are being offered at very low prices due to the present glut. AMD doesn't give away FAB services. By the way, Intel is also starting to have some of its chipsets FABed in Taiwan.
