So what would suggest? A single national airline run by the federal government with no competition? No. What I would suggest is that the anti-trust laws are there for a good [and obvious] reason; a company doesn't seek an anti-trust exemption to facilitate a free and open market; when the head of American Airlines is a top campaign fundraiser for Bush with direct access to the White House and then the Transporation Department rejects a request for a judicial review for anti-competitive practices that stinks of quid pro qou. American Airlines, which is run by one of President Bush's top campaign fundraisers, Donald J. Carty, has had private White House meetings to make its case. The White House has ordered an inquiry into the progress of the antitrust exemption request currently pending at the Transportation Department. American cleared a key hurdle last week when the Transportation Department rejected a request by Delta, Continental and Northwest for a judicial review of their claims that the alliance would be anti-competitive and anti-consumer. jttmab
