Familiar issues up here, except we are dealing more with lumber and tourists than with auto parts. One of the ferries we can take to the mainland originates in Canada, and we are subject to customs search when we hit the mainland, since we've mingled with people coming over from Canada. Used to be you just told then you got on in the San Juan Islands, and they popped you right through. Now, though, it's a lot more complicated. They ask for photo ID, and have done some random searches. Also, we've been warned that if we want to cross the border we may need not just drivers licenses, which used to be fine, but either a passport or a birth certificate. Unprecedented.

There are so many ways life has changed since September 11. The ripple effects are virtually endless.

Interesting article. Last year I had a mare founder right before New Year. I ordered three bottles of Isoxsuprine from Kentucky and shipped to an address in Montana. When I got to Canada Customs they would not let me in with the meds because there was no French labels on the bottles. Obviously there were trying to save the feeling of poor cheval who would have been hysterical at the thought of labeling that was not up to Canadian Federal standards.
