I don't follow the two you mentioned closely although I am familiar with them. I certainly wouldn't put them in the same category as EMC though. Even at 13 EMC is still a 30B firm and does have some pretty nice intellectual property assets in the storage area. My thought was that some of these stocks tend to really move right at the start of the year for purely technical reasons. WCOM's prospects on January 1, 2001 weren't any better than on December 31,2000, yet the stock moved from 13 to 22 in less than two weeks as I recall. Of course the rest of the year was a wash as it went right back down to 13, but if you played it correctly you made 75% on your money very quickly. Keep in mind Dell now also has a deal with EMC. Now whether EMC or other large destroyed techs will move early next year for a short term trade, well that's the 64k question! I am a bit intrigued with EMC because it is one of the former glam techs that really has not moved and held it's gains since the Sept NASDAQ lows. The stock did hit 18 from a low around 10, but then pulled back. Perhaps that means more bad news early next year as stocks such as NTAP have quadrupled off their lows and pretty much held their gains.
