What is enlightened about starving the people of a country for forty years when for the past thirty of those they have posed no threat whatsoever to the US? What possible enlightened interest does the continued embargo of Cuba serve at this point in history?

It is, or should be, the goal of US foreign policy to
advance US interests, especially security interests to the exclusion of others.

That's plain silly. There are multiple goals we have to balance. Security is one of them, but far from the only one.
