They could have. But the principles that bin Laden and Hitler adhere to do not resemble in any way the freedom and democracy this country represents. In fact CH, it is a rather insulting comparison.

Those identical words could have come out of the mouth of Bin Laden.

Or of Hitler.

Would you suggest that, instead of ostracizing and opposing such people and regimes, we take them to our bosoms and aid them?

"We should give no aid to any regime which seeks to destroy those
principles we adhere to and toppling such regimes is a worthy goal."

Those identical words could have come out of the mouth of Bin Laden.

Or of Hitler.

And I certainly don't call that an enlightened philosophy.

The fact that Hitler or bin Laden may have said something like that is not relevant, if toppling an evil regime is an enlightened goal (and I think it is).

I don't think we should normally use force or even an embargo in this effort. The goal is enlightened but the practical measures to achieve it usually are not justified except in extreme cases or when the regime threatens the US.
