Haim, thanks for your take. I think the Israeli's who criticized Sharon's banning of the Bethlehem move failed to ask themselves 'what would Arafat do and say in Bethlehem, and where would he go next?'

As to Shimon Peres I would like to see him disappear as quickly as possible he is very very selfish man trying to undermine every Prime Minister in his effort to steal the spotlight ........besides that he is a plain arrogant idiot and that IMHO Mubarak loves him as they are the same.

I agree but obviously Sharon feels he has to hang onto him; I don't know why -- could it be that Peres is in good odor with Colin Powell & the US State Dept?

The Pakistan- India almost war situation helps Israel in a strange way IMHO.

Well, it keeps Israell off the top headlines. Also having India threaten war in response to Muslim terrorism makes Israel seem less isolated.

Suicide bomber killed in Gaza Strip; IDF lifts Bethlehem siege

By Amos Harel, Ha'aretz Correspondent.

A Palestinian man was killed Thursday night near the Netzarim junction in the Gaza Strip, apparently when the bomb strapped to his body exploded by accident, Israel Radio reported.

Military sources say that the bomber most likely intended to blow himself near a military jeep that was approaching him. However, when IDF soldiers detected his presence they opened fire. It was at that time that the bomb exploded. It is still unclear if the bomber was killed first by IDF fire or by the force of the explosion.

IDF searches conducted near the site of the blast Friday morning found a rocket propelled grenade launcher, and a Kalachnikov rifle near the bomber's body. The bomber was the only casualty in the incident.

There has been a marked reduction in suicide bombings of late, the last one carried out by a bomber in Haifa on December 10.

In addition four anti-tank grenades were fired at an IDF outpost near the Ganei Tal settlement in the Gaza Strip. Another two anti-tank grenades were fired at IDF outposts near Neve Dekalim and in Rafah, also in the Gaza Strip. The IDF reported that no soldiers were injured and that IDF forces returned fire.
