Warren Buffett Invests in Burnham Pacific
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Warren Buffett (news - web sites), one of America's most watched investors, said on Wednesday in a regulatory filing that he holds a 5.06 percent stake in Burnham Pacific Properties Inc. (NYSE:BPP - news), a retail real estate company.

Buffett, the billionaire who heads Berkshire Hathaway Inc. (NYSE:BRKA - news), disclosed the passive investment stake in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission (news - web sites). The 5.06 percent position was equal to more than 1.6 million common shares.

The filing did not disclose any transaction details such as when the shares were purchased nor at what prices.

Shares of Burnham Pacific, a San Diego, California-based real estate investment trust, closed up 30 cents to $5.23 Wednesday on the New York Stock Exchange (news - web sites).

The company announced last week that it will make a liquidating distribution of $1.25 per share to its common stockholders as a result of the closing of eight properties to a joint venture led by affiliates of PO'B Montgomery & Co. and Apollo Real Estate Advisors.

In addition to the distribution, proceeds from the sale of the eight properties will be used to reduce outstanding debt and satisfy other obligations.
