Kennedy's original Cuban blockade, where he sent warships to intercept Russian vessels on the high seas in absolute violation of international law. There was minimal, if any, attempt to negotiate a solution then.

Can you provide one example where the US came out guns blazing and did not try negotiating a solution that suited our own ends first?


Cooler heads may prevail, but the hawkish, unilateral advocates are always out there. Remember the calls a couple of months ago to nuke the Middle East? I think the news items we see on this Canadian immigration thing is an indicator that discussions are going on. It's an open question if the strident calls for getting tough that you see in opinion pieces hurt the effort or not.
