Why should the Euro decline even more versus the dollar? European products are already much more competitive than American products on world markets. Euro countries are running trade surpluses as a whole vs the rest of the world. The only thing that keeps the dollar at its lofty perch is huge European financial flows into the US. It seems to me that there is a better than even chance that these flows will moderate and the Euro will appreciate in 2002.
