Yep. When international law conflicts with our national security....international law needs to be brushed aside... In global politics, there is no "right" and "wrong", only what works....

We will obey international law unless we don't want to. Then we won't.

International law is not law in the normal sense of the term. It is rather just a series of agreements. Violating it is not like violating a law but rather breaking a promise. I usually think that if we sign an ratify something that we should not break our promise, but in a few cases the promise turns out to be so stupid that we should break it (in that case we should have been more careful about what we promised) or the party that we make a promise to breaks their promise and frees us from our commitment.
