I believe that part, but not all, of JLA's point is that we are under no obligation to do anything that benefits a country that is hostile to the U.S.

Despite jla's trying, I haven't heard a single respectable argument here for continuing the blockade.

The fact that you may not agree with the arguments for continuing the embargo does not undercut their validity. The US should have no truck with a brutal dictator who has confiscated US property and represses his own people, foments violence abroad, etc....
