'Collectively investing', whatever that is, makes no sense to me. 'Well managed corporations' is backwards looking, whereas all investment must be forward looking into an uncertain future.

If you are asking what economic purpose the stock market serves, it is primarily to provide a liquid market that serves as an exit for company founders and venture capitalists as an incentive for risk taking, but also to serve as a voting booth that judges the ongoing performance of management.
